Case 39 Trailer Deconstruction

Sound:
·        The music in most of the trailer is fast paced and upbeat, adds to the action building up through the trailer, however when something dramatic happens after that it goes a lot quieter and soothing music almost time to reflect on what has just happens before the action starts rising again
·         There is constant music throughout this film trailer it’s quieter when the actors are speaking and louder in parts where they are just showing action or where there is no dialogue needed, the music used is quite jaunty and fast paced which is trying to make the viewer feel on edge watching it
·         As it is building up to the climax towards the end it’s all very rushed quick type of music, until the last bit where to all goes completely silent this comes across as very dramatic.

Camera Angles:

·         The first camera angle we see is an establishing shot of New York with lots of high rise buildings lots of businesses etc. we know it will be set here
·         A high angle shot is used to show the dominance of different characters in the office, the man handing out the work is standing up while the woman is sitting down, from this it shows he has more power over her
·         Later on we see a low angle shot where the girl is looking up although we can’t  see her face directly, she looks quite nervous the colours behind her are very dull and she looks inferior to the audience
·         The medium shot which shows the young girl and woman shows the adult comforting the child almost like what a motherly figure would do to protect someone
·         The close up of the bolt on the door symbolises they are trying to keep something hidden away by locking It up or that they are instead unlocking the door to open something up
·         The bugs all over his back are significant as this is one of the first indications we see of something going wrong as an effect of looking after this girl and the problems that come with it

Mise en scene:
From the first clip we see two of the main actors wearing quite casual clothes which could suggest they’re not at work not very bothered on personal appearance, they look like they have a close relationship by the way they are pictured together, the blue skies in the background shows it’s a nice day maybe that could be reflective of how they are supposed to be acting.
·         Whereas in the other clip later on in the film this is contrasted when they show the little girl the mood seems to change, she is shown outside the house while its pouring with rain and thunderous, everything looks very grey and miserable, this could symbolise that the girl always has a negative atmosphere around her or things change in her presence which helps us to have more of an insight into the film.
·         The last clip is showing her previous mother in some sort of institute, she looks dishevelled with a pale complexion and dark frizzy hair making her look very tired. This shows that she’s not healthy, her strange life has contributed to the way she looks and acts, and she has a very vacant look on her face as if she is distancing herself from the audience.

Editing:
·         The main form of editing is linear narrative styles of storytelling in which events happen chronologically.
·         They use cross cutting a series of short clips and put them together very quickly to create fast paced action, and to build up the suspense.
·         There is a state of equilibrium at the beginning of the trailer and by the end of the trailer this has changed to a state of disequilibrium
